Two of the clubs Don was involved with at state level had experienced little success and no premiership glory over the course of their existence; it was the rewarding challenge of trying to cultivate a winning culture in the Werribee and Box Hill environments that culminated in the grand final triumphs of 1993 and 2001 respectively. This taught Don a great deal about leadership, team bonding, and ultimately, the pursuit of goals. Don strongly believes there are many parallels that link the corporate world with the sporting environment; most importantly the need for all employees or team members to be fiercely motivated in working together to achieve a common goal. This cooperation and tenacity is an essential ingredient for success. Don’s experiences playing and coaching at the elite level in a competitive sporting environment result from the following: 2004-present: AFL senior assistant coach with the North Melbourne Football Club 2000-2004: AFL senior assistant coach with the Hawthorn Football Club (Coached the remaining five games of the 2004 season as senior coach of the Hawks) 1993-2000: In excess of 200 VFL games as senior playing coach, senior non-playing coach and General Manager of the Werribee Tigers, and then the Box Hill Hawks (Premierships in 1993 and 2001, Nine finals campaigns in ten years) 1982-1992: 155 games of senior AFL football as a player with the North Melbourne Football Club Clements Dunne & BellClements Dunne & Bell assists management planning and decision making to drive business performance and profitability.www.cdb.com.au Searching for KnowledgeInspiring managers for the business challenges they faceChanges Coaching Australia is an Associate Partner of S4K Research (“S4K”) and represents S4K in Australia. Searching for Knowledge (s4k) links business challenges with relevant reading, to support managers with the business challenges they face. S4K has developed a proprietary methodology to link companies’ business challenges with relevant reading. Currently more than 14,000 managers from large, multinational companies are provided with handpicked articles through S4K’s concept. S4K’s clients are typically multinational companies with 5,000 employees or more. They operate in a wide range of industries such as Telecom, Media, Automotive, Energy, Insurance and Banking. The services are targeted towards a wide range of managers from middle management and upwards and towards participants in management development programs. Through a yearly interview with each of its clients, S4K learns about the different challenges managers face. This knowledge is used as guidance when handpicking the articles. The concept consists of two services working in tandem; one push- and one pull. Through the Management Update™ the manager is provided with a new, handpicked article every month via e-mail for each of the chosen areas. The user chooses two topics from a list of 12 predefined topics, such as Leadership, Marketing and Strategy. The Management Library™ provides access to more than 20,000 handpicked articles written for business leaders and professionals from more than 40 carefully selected European, American and Global sources with the latest management thinking, business cases and best practices. The manager can browse 12 topics to find the latest articles or use the search function to find relevant articles when facing specific questions in their daily work. Providing managers with access to the services should be perceived as a corporate initiative. The services are, therefore, presented in the clients’ corporate design and the Management Library™ is made available through their Intranet.
